Defence Minister Badaru Abubakar Resigns

N Nigeria’s Minister of Defence, Alhaji Mohammed Badaru Abubakar, has tendered his resignation, stepping down from his role with immediate effect due to health-related concerns.

His decision was contained in a letter dated December 1 and submitted to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. According to a statement signed by the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, President Tinubu has accepted Badaru’s resignation and expressed appreciation for his contribution to national security.

The Presidency is expected to forward the name of a new ministerial nominee to the Senate later this week.

Badaru, 63, served two terms as governor of Jigawa State before joining the federal cabinet on August 21, 2023. His exit comes at a time when the administration is preparing to implement measures under the recently declared national security emergency.
