Lagos Fire Service Rescues 84-Year-Old Man from Well in Aboru

T The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service has rescued an 84-year-old man who fell into a well in the Aboru community of Agbado Oke-Odo Local Council Development Area of Lagos State.

Confirming the incident in a statement on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, the agency’s Controller General, Margaret Adeseye, said preliminary findings indicated that the elderly man allegedly attempted to take his own life by jumping into the well, estimated to be about 140 feet deep.

According to the statement, the Fire and Rescue Service received a distress call at about 10:09 a.m. reporting the incident at No. 35A, Fadeyemi Street, Pipeline, Aboru. A rescue team was immediately deployed to the location.

The victim was successfully retrieved alive by the rescue operatives and was subsequently handed over to his family members for further care and necessary attention.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service reiterated its commitment to prompt emergency response and urged residents to seek help and report emergencies without delay.
