IGP Orders Dismissal, Prosecution of Officer Over Delta Extrajudicial Killing

T The Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu, has ordered the immediate dismissal and prosecution of Assistant Superintendent of Police, Nuhu Usman, over his involvement in the fatal shooting of an upcoming singer in Effurun, Delta State.

The directive follows the April 26, 2026 incident that led to the death of Mene Ogidi, sparking widespread public outrage and calls for accountability.

In a statement issued on Wednesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, Anthony Placid, the police said all officers connected to the incident had been withdrawn from the Delta State Command and redeployed to the Force Headquarters in Abuja for expedited disciplinary procedures.

According to the statement, the Force Disciplinary Committee (FDC), alongside other internal mechanisms, conducted a thorough review of the case and found the principal officer culpable.

“The findings established unequivocally that the principal officer, ASP Nuhu Usman, acted in gross violation of Force Order 237 and other extant regulations governing the use of firearms. His actions were unlawful, unprofessional, and a clear betrayal of the oath to protect life and uphold the law,” the statement read.

The committee subsequently recommended the immediate dismissal of Usman and other officers found culpable, a decision which the Inspector-General has approved and forwarded to the Police Service Commission for ratification.

The police added that upon completion of administrative procedures, the affected officers would be handed over to appropriate judicial authorities for prosecution over their roles in the extrajudicial killing.

The development marks a significant step by the police leadership to address concerns over misconduct and reinforce accountability within the Force.
