Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have arrested a 33-year-old suspected drug courier in Oyo State after he excreted 45 wraps of cocaine concealed in his body.
The suspect, identified as Eze Prince Emeka, was apprehended on Tuesday, April 21, along the Akinyele axis of the Ibadan/Oyo Expressway. NDLEA officials intercepted a commercial bus with registration number MNA 963 ZY en route to Sokoto, during which the suspect was singled out for further checks.
Following a body scan that confirmed ingestion of illicit substances, Emeka—who claimed to be a businessman based in Sokoto—was placed under close observation. Over the course of three excretions, he expelled a total of 45 pellets of cocaine weighing 1.043 kilograms.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect opted to travel by road in a bid to evade airport security screening. Authorities disclosed that upon reaching Sokoto, he was expected to excrete the drugs, rest for a few days, and then re-ingest them for onward movement through trans-Saharan trafficking routes.
The route reportedly included Algeria as a transit point, with the final destination believed to be in Europe.
The NDLEA said further investigations are ongoing to uncover other members of the trafficking network and to determine the full extent of the operation.
