Nottingham Forest Open Talks with Wolves Over José Sá Transfer

Nottingham Forest have opened discussions with Wolverhampton Wanderers over a potential move for Portuguese goalkeeper José Sá as the January transfer window nears its deadline.
Transfer journalist Ben Jacobs reported that Forest are actively engaged in talks for the 33-year-old shot-stopper, who has recently reclaimed his place as Wolves’ first-choice goalkeeper under head coach Rob Edwards after starting the season as backup to Sam Johnstone.
Sá, who joined Wolves from Olympiacos in 2021 and remains under contract until 2027, has returned to form with a run of assured performances in recent weeks.
Forest, who have rotated between Matz Sels and John Victor in goal this season, are understood to be in the market for an experienced goalkeeper to provide stability and competition for the remainder of the 2025/26 campaign.
The former Olympiacos goalkeeper has been on Forest’s radar for some time, with club owner Evangelos Marinakis familiar with Sá from previous connections.
Any potential deal could have implications for Wolves’ goalkeeping setup, with Johnstone reportedly attracting loan interest from Tottenham Hotspur following the loss of his starting role.
A source close to the situation said: “Nottingham Forest see José Sá as a reliable and experienced option who can bring leadership and consistency to their goalkeeping department.”
Negotiations between the clubs are ongoing as Forest look to strengthen their squad in the final days of the transfer window.
