Nigerian footballer Daniel Daga has been sentenced to six months imprisonment by a court in Norway after he was found guilty of committing a sexual act without consent.
The 19-year-old midfielder, who plays for Norwegian club Molde FK and represents the Nigeria U-20 national football team, was also ordered to pay 10,000 Norwegian kroner in legal costs.
The case, according to TV 2 Norway, stems from an incident reported to police in April 2025. Daga was later charged under Section 297 of the Norwegian Penal Code, which criminalizes sexual acts carried out without consent.
Daga’s lawyer, Astrid Bolstad, said the player remains adamant that the encounter was consensual and plans to challenge the ruling. “He is very upset about the verdict. He believes he is innocent and that everything happened with consent,” she told TV 2.
In response to the development, Molde FK announced that the midfielder will not be included in the club’s match squad until further notice. Club chairman Tarje Nordstrand Jacobsen said the matter is serious and the club would avoid further public comments while the legal process continues.
