Adeleke Quits PDP Hours Before Controversial Osun Primary

O Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has formally withdrawn from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), creating a new wave of uncertainty ahead of the party’s governorship primary scheduled for Tuesday.

Earlier on Monday, Osun PDP Chairman, Sunday Bisi, announced that the primary would not proceed due to deepening internal divisions. He also confirmed that Governor Adeleke had pulled out of the contest as a result of the crisis rocking the party.

However, a directive reportedly issued by the PDP National Secretariat countered the state leadership, insisting that the exercise must hold at the Atlantic Multipurpose Hall in Osogbo, further aggravating tensions within the party.

A resignation letter dated November 4, 2025, later emerged, confirming the governor’s exit. Addressed to the PDP Ward Chairman of Sagba Ward 2, Ede North, Adeleke attributed his departure to the leadership tussle at the national level.

“Due to the current crisis of the national leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), I hereby resign my membership… with immediate effect,” he wrote.

He also acknowledged the party’s support throughout his political career, including his time as senator and governor under the PDP platform.

Adeleke’s resignation, arriving on the eve of an already disputed primary, is expected to escalate political unrest in Osun State and raises doubts about the PDP’s readiness for the 2026 governorship election.
