Ceasefire Offer Emerges as Tehran Signals Conditional Halt to Military Operations

A fresh diplomatic opening has emerged in the ongoing regional tensions, as Iran has announced a conditional willingness to halt its military operations if attacks against it are stopped.
In an official statement dated April 7, 2026, from Tehran, Iran’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Seyed Abbas Araghchi, expressed appreciation to Shehbaz Sharif and Asim Munir for their efforts toward de-escalating the conflict.
The statement indicated that the move followed diplomatic engagements, including a request from Pakistan’s leadership and proposals put forward by the United States, as well as prior negotiation frameworks suggested by Iran.
Speaking on behalf of Iran’s Supreme National Security Council, Araghchi declared that Tehran is prepared to suspend its defensive military actions under specific conditions.
“If attacks against Iran are halted, our powerful armed forces will cease their defensive operations.”
The statement further revealed a temporary arrangement aimed at easing tensions in global energy and shipping routes. According to the minister, safe passage through the strategically critical Strait of Hormuz would be permitted for a period of two weeks, subject to coordination with Iranian forces and existing technical considerations.
The development signals a potential shift toward diplomacy after days of heightened uncertainty, with international observers closely monitoring whether the proposal could pave the way for broader negotiations and a lasting ceasefire.
