The authorities in Saudi Arabia have approved a four-day holiday to celebrate Eid al-Fitr for employees in the private and non-profit sectors, reaffirming adherence to national labour regulations.
The Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development disclosed that the holiday will commence at the end of official working hours on Wednesday, March 18, 2026, which aligns with the 29th day of Ramadan 1447 AH.
Speaking on the development, the ministry’s spokesperson, Mohammed Al Ruzaiqi, said the early declaration is aimed at ensuring smooth planning across organisations while allowing workers to prepare adequately for the festivities.
“Announcing the holiday ahead of time enables institutions to organise their schedules efficiently while ensuring employees enjoy their full holiday entitlement,” he said.
The ministry also reiterated that employers must strictly observe the provisions of the Saudi Labour Law, particularly regarding paid leave during official holidays.
“Where Eid holidays overlap with weekly rest days, or where employees are required to work due to operational demands, compensation must be granted in accordance with the law,” the ministry stated.
The announcement underscores the government’s effort to balance workforce welfare with operational efficiency during a major religious celebration.
