Nigeria Not on Brink of Collapse, FG Assures

T The Federal Government has dismissed claims that Nigeria is on the verge of collapse, insisting that the country remains stable and is steadily on a path to recovery.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made this known while speaking at the 81st General Assembly and 23rd Annual General Meeting of the Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria in Abuja.

Idris said Nigeria continues to demonstrate resilience despite ongoing security and economic challenges, citing recent successes by security forces in states such as Zamfara and Niger, where bandit activities have been disrupted.

“Nigeria is not on the brink of collapse. Our country remains stable and is making steady progress toward recovery,” he said.

He added that improved intelligence gathering and better coordination among security agencies are strengthening efforts to safeguard lives and property across the country.

On the economy, the minister pointed to improvements in foreign reserves and growing investor confidence, noting that reforms in both oil and non-oil sectors are helping to boost revenue and stabilise public finances.

Idris also referenced Nigeria’s return to Frontier Market status by FTSE Russell as a sign of renewed global confidence, highlighting gains in foreign exchange liquidity and market transparency.

Addressing the media, he urged responsible journalism, particularly ahead of the next election cycle, and called for collaboration to combat misinformation and promote national unity.

“We must work together to ensure responsible reporting that strengthens our democracy and fosters unity,” he added.

He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to maintaining a free and responsible media environment.
