Troops Disrupt Drug Supply Network Linked to Terrorists in North East

T Troops of the Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, have disrupted an illicit drug supply network allegedly linked to terrorist activities in Borno State, recording another success under Operation DESERT SANITY V.

The operation, carried out on January 23, 2026, led to the arrest of a 65-year-old suspected drug dealer, Hauwa Abulazeez, in Askira Uba Local Government Area of Borno State, following credible intelligence.

According to the military, the suspect is believed to be a major supplier of cannabis sativa to Boko Haram terrorists operating across Askira Uba, Rumirgo, Gwahi, Wamdiyo, Uvu and Gaya communities, serving as a key conduit in the distribution of the illicit substance within the North East theatre.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the drugs were allegedly sourced from Sarti Baruwa Local Government Area of Taraba State and transported through established supply routes for onward distribution to terrorist elements and criminal networks.

During the operation, troops recovered 14 compressed blocks of cannabis sativa, weighing approximately 30 kilograms, a seizure described as a significant interception aimed at cutting off logistics that sustain criminal and terrorist activities.

Confirming the development, the Media Information Officer of Operation HADIN KAI, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, said the suspect is currently in custody while investigations continue.

“The suspect is presently undergoing preliminary investigation, while follow-up actions are ongoing to identify and dismantle the wider network involved in the trafficking and distribution of the illicit substance,” he said.

Lt. Col. Uba noted that disrupting drug supply chains remains critical to weakening terrorist operations and restoring stability in the region.

“The interception underscores the broader impact of denying illicit supply chains that fuel violence, criminality and instability. By disrupting these networks, the operation contributes to improved security conditions and the reinforcement of lawful authority across the region,” he added.

He reaffirmed the commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to sustaining pressure on criminal and terrorist networks in the North East.

“Operation HADIN KAI remains unwavering in its resolve to confront and eliminate all forms of criminality across the North East. Through sustained, intelligence-driven operations, troops will continue to deny criminal networks the space, resources and freedom required to operate until lasting peace and stability are achieved,” Uba stated.
