The Kwara State Government has announced the reopening of schools across the state from Monday, February 2, 2026, following sustained security operations aimed at flushing out bandits and other criminal elements.
The decision was disclosed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Education and Human Capital Development, Dr. Lawal Olohungbebe, who said all school authorities had been duly informed.
According to the commissioner, the reopening comes on the back of improved security conditions resulting from continuous operations by security agencies to neutralise threats to public safety, including schools.
“The government deems the situation now to be a lot better than it was before. Even so, we continue to maintain vigilance,” Olohungbebe said.
He added that security forces remain actively engaged in operations to consolidate recent gains, while the state government works to strengthen community resilience alongside ongoing kinetic efforts.
The statement assured parents, students and school administrators that the safety of learners and education personnel remains a top priority of the government.
The announcement was signed by the Press Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Peter Amogbonjaye, and dated February 1, 2026.
