A Federal High Court sitting in Kaduna State has granted bail to former governor of Kaduna State, Nasir El-Rufai, in his ongoing corruption trial.
The ruling, delivered by Justice Rilwan Aikawa, followed earlier adjournments during which the court heard arguments from both the defence and the prosecution.
In its decision, the court granted El-Rufai bail in the sum of N200 million, with two sureties in like sum. It further imposed strict conditions, including that one surety must be a senior civil servant not below Grade Level 15, while the second must be a recognised traditional ruler.
The court also directed that both sureties must deposit their international passports. In addition, El-Rufai was ordered to attend all court sittings and refrain from making any public comments regarding the case.
Despite the bail ruling, the former governor is expected to remain in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) until all bail conditions are fully met.
El-Rufai is facing multiple charges bordering on alleged financial misconduct, abuse of office, and mismanagement of public funds during his tenure in office.
