Tinubu Meets Service Chiefs, Intelligence Heads Over Rising Insecurity
P
President Bola Tinubu on April 13 convened a high-level security meeting with the nation’s top military and intelligence officials at the State House, Abuja, amid growing concerns over insecurity across the country.
The closed-door session brought together the Chief of Defence Staff, General Olufemi Oluyede; Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Waidi Shaibu; Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Idi Abbas; and Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sunday Anele. Also in attendance were the Inspector-General of Police, Tunji Disu; Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), Oluwatosin Ajayi; and Director-General of the National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ambassador Mohammed Mohammed.
The National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, was also present alongside other senior security officials.
The meeting comes at a critical time as the government faces mounting pressure to address persistent security challenges nationwide, including insurgency, banditry, and communal clashes.
It also follows reports of a controversial airstrike by the Nigerian Air Force in Yobe State, which allegedly resulted in the deaths of over 20 civilians, further heightening public concern over military operations and civilian safety.
Details of the deliberations were not disclosed, but the meeting is believed to be part of ongoing efforts by the Tinubu administration to reassess and strengthen Nigeria’s security architecture.
