MAAUN Founder Donates Hyundai SUV to NWUK Vice-Chancellor, Pledges Development Centre
The Founder of Maryam Abacha American University of Niger (MAAUN), Professor Adamu Abubakar Gwarzo, has donated a brand-new Hyundai SUV to the Vice-Chancellor of Northwest University Kano (NWUK), Professor Amina Salihi Bayero, in recognition of her contributions to the development of education.
Gwarzo presented the vehicle to Bayero during a special visit to the university on Friday, August 28, 2026. The vehicle, according to the university, was a personal donation to the Vice-Chancellor and is intended for her personal use, not as an official university vehicle.
Describing Bayero as a “Practical Professor,” Gwarzo commended her dedication, intellectual capacity and contributions to MAAUN during her tenure at the institution.
“During her stay at MAAUN, she changed the narrative of the university and brought a lot of positive changes. That is why I call her a Practical Professor,” he said.
He expressed confidence that Bayero would replicate her achievements at Northwest University Kano, adding that the donation was a token of appreciation for her commitment to academic development and institutional growth.
Gwarzo also pledged to establish a Development Centre for Northwest University Kano to help the institution identify and access grants and other funding opportunities from development partners. The centre, he said, would support initiatives in infrastructure, research, innovation, academic programmes and human capital development.
Responding, Professor Bayero described Gwarzo as an “Uncommon Philanthropist,” expressing appreciation for his continued support for the university and his commitment to education and entrepreneurship.
She also briefed the visiting delegation on some of the achievements and ongoing initiatives of her administration since assuming office, particularly in teaching, research, infrastructure and innovation.
The latest donation marks the third vehicle donated by Gwarzo to Northwest University Kano. Previous donations include a luxury bus for the university and a brand-new Toyota Hilux for the Office of the Vice-Chancellor.
Meanwhile, the Dean of the Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences, Professor Abdulmumin Yunusa, announced that the university’s Department of Anatomy had acquired a brand-new Anatomage Table, a digital anatomy system designed to enhance medical education.
Yunusa pledged that MAAUN medical students would also have access to the facility for anatomy training and virtual cadaver-based learning.
Principal officers of Northwest University Kano at the event commended Gwarzo for his generosity and congratulated Professor Bayero on the recognition, describing his support as an example of how philanthropy can contribute to educational and institutional development.
