Kano Hisbah Bans Mobile Movie Download Business Over Alleged Violation of Islamic Teachings
The Kano State Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the state’s 44 local government areas, citing the need to protect public morality and uphold Islamic values.
The Deputy Commander-General of the board, Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen, announced the directive in a statement issued on Thursday, July 16, 2026.
According to Aminuddeen, the decision followed complaints that some operators engaged in the mobile movie download business were circulating pornographic films and other video materials considered offensive to Islamic teachings and the cultural values of Kano State.
He said the ban takes immediate effect across all 44 local government areas.
“The Hisbah Board has banned the downloading and distribution of movies through mobile phones across the 44 local government areas in the state,” he said.
The Deputy Commander-General disclosed that Hisbah personnel had been deployed to enforce the directive through routine patrols and monitoring operations.
He warned that anyone found violating the order would face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State.
“The board has deployed its personnel to monitor compliance through routine patrols and enforcement operations across the state. Anyone found violating the directive will face legal action in accordance with the laws of Kano State,” Aminuddeen stated.
He urged those affected by the ban to explore other lawful means of livelihood, stressing that the measure was aimed at safeguarding young people from exposure to harmful content and preserving societal values.
Aminuddeen further linked the rising cases of moral decadence among youths to the increasing consumption of indecent films and videos, noting that the board remains committed to promoting ethical conduct and protecting the moral fabric of the state.
