WISE Learners Excel at 6th African Mathematics Day Celebration in Abuja

W WISE students showcased exceptional talent in mathematics at the 6th African Mathematics Day celebration, organized by the African Mathematics Projects team in collaboration with the FCT Ministry of Education, the African Union, and the 6th region of Canada. The event aimed to celebrate young mathematical minds and promote numeracy across schools.

Top ten mathematics students from basic to senior secondary classes were awarded certificates for their outstanding performance. Students were selected after undergoing a series of assessments testing their numeracy and mathematics competency.

Mrs. Adeola Ajolore, Assistant Head of Academics, Primary section, WISE, said, “At WISE, we believe in nurturing mathematical minds. We commend our learners' efforts and encourage them to keep exploring the world of numbers.”

Parents shared their pride and highlighted the importance of support at home. Mrs. Jegede said, “As parents, our involvement is key to their success.” Mrs. Afun added, “I'm proud of my child's achievement in math.” Mrs. Uche Ayogu stressed, “We must encourage our kids to love math.” Mr. Noko commented, “Support from home and the teachers’ efforts makes a big difference and we can see it in the award today.” Mrs. Ogunmola said, “Math is crucial for their future; we thank God for the efforts.” Mr. Bello concluded, “We're happy with the school's efforts.”

Teachers were also recognized for their contributions, emphasizing that student success is a shared effort between educators and families.

Ambassador Ruth, representing the African Mathematics Project, said, “Children often think math is tough; this award aims to show them that math can be easy. We created a platform to recognize learners who are excelling and those striving to improve.” She also encouraged parents to provide resources like mathematics dictionaries for their children.

Closing the event, Mrs. Adesuwa Ogwu, Head of Academics, Administration, and Quality of WISE, said, “We celebrate our students' achievements and commend the dedication of our teachers. We remain committed to providing an environment that fosters academic excellence and nurtures future leaders.”

The celebration successfully promoted mathematics education, recognized exceptional students, and reinforced the importance of both teacher and parental support in developing future mathematical talent.
