The management of the Federal College of Education (Technical), Bichi, has commended Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau Jibrin, for what it described as consistent educational support to students and the institution.
This followed the disbursement of scholarships to 4,183 students of the college from Kano North Senatorial District, with beneficiaries receiving N20,000 for NCE students and N50,000 for Degree (B.Ed) students.
Speaking through his representative, Deputy Provost Dr Bashir Sabo Abubakar, the Provost, Dr Kabiru Musa Bichi, said the continuous increase in beneficiaries shows the senator’s commitment to education and youth development.
“Every year, the number of beneficiaries keeps increasing. This clearly shows that the Deputy President of the Senate places education as a top priority,” the provost said.
He added that beyond scholarships, the senator has also contributed to infrastructural development in the college, including ongoing construction work and improved campus security.
“He is currently constructing our administrative block at the permanent site. He has provided solar streetlights at both our temporary and permanent sites, significantly improving security,” he added.
Also speaking during the scholarship disbursement, Special Assistant on Women Affairs, Hajiya Yardada Maikano Bichi, observed that women made up the majority of the beneficiaries.
“As observed by Hajiya Yardada Maikano Bichi, about 60 per cent of the beneficiaries are women. Educating a woman is equivalent to educating an entire society,” the statement noted.
One of the beneficiaries, Khadija Abdullahi, expressed gratitude to the deputy senate president, describing him as a leader committed to education and development.
“Senator Barau is an extraordinary leader who champions the transformation of education in Kano. He leads by example. We cannot thank him enough. May Almighty Allah reward him and continue to see him through his endeavours,” she said.
Barau noted that similar interventions have been extended to other institutions, including Bayero University Kano (BUK), Northwest University, and other colleges of education, assuring that his education-driven empowerment programmes would continue.
