Tinubu Pledges Tech-Driven Development, Food Security at Brazil Meeting

P President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has reiterated his administration’s commitment to driving Nigeria’s transformation through technology, innovation, and food security, while urging Nigerians in the diaspora to play a leading role in the nation’s progress.

Speaking during a meeting with Nigerians in Brazil on Tuesday, Tinubu drew comparisons between Nigeria and Brazil, noting that both nations once had similar economic starting points. He stressed that Nigeria has the talent and resources to replicate Brazil’s development model, particularly in technology and agriculture.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday, August 27, by Presidential Spokesperson Bayo Onanuga, the President described Nigerians abroad as “key stakeholders” in the country’s reform journey.

“We must bring Nigeria to the forefront of Africa’s progress, driven by technology, food sovereignty, and the courage to change our destiny,” Tinubu said. “Once upon a time, Nigeria and Brazil stood on the same level. Look at Brazil today, its technology, its food systems. We must ask ourselves: what do they have that we don’t?”

The President urged citizens to embrace resilience, pointing to ongoing reforms as necessary steps to secure a better future.

“Yes, the reforms are tough — like bitter medicine. But once the fever is gone, you know the cure was worth it,” he said.

He also celebrated the contributions of the diaspora, describing their diversity and commitment as a reflection of the Nigeria his administration is working to build. “You are the pride of our nation. Your diversity, your commitment — it reflects the Nigeria we are working to build. I salute you all,” Tinubu stated.

In a motivational note, Tinubu referenced Nobel laureate Wole Soyinka as a symbol of enduring vision and action. “If Wole Soyinka, at over 90, can still dream and act, then we have no excuse. The dream must be realized. The time is now,” he added.
