President Tinubu demands justice over Super Eagles harrowing experience in Libya

P President Bola Tinubu has warmly welcomed the safe return of the Super Eagles to Nigeria, expressing deep concern over the "inhuman treatment" the national football team endured at a Libyan airport.

This distressing episode has prompted the Nigerian Football Federation to withdraw the team from their scheduled match on Tuesday.

The president's remarks come as the national team faced unsettling circumstances at the hands of their hosts and Libyan authorities, which he condemned as unsportsmanlike and inhumane.

"The treatment of our citizens is a stark contrast to the spirit of the game that I deeply appreciate," President Tinubu stated, highlighting the unifying power of football in bridging nations and people.

He has called for a swift and thorough investigation by the Disciplinary Board of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) to hold accountable those responsible for the violations of the organization’s Statutes and Regulations.

"I expect appropriate action against those who willfully violated these standards," he declared.

Additionally, President Tinubu commended the proactive efforts of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Federal Ministry of Sports Development in ensuring the safe return of the players.

"I applaud the players for keeping their spirit alive despite the excruciating ordeal in Libya," he added, recognizing their resilience in the face of adversity.
