Ododo Flags Off Rural Electrification Project for 30 Communities in Kogi

K Kogi State Governor, Ahmed Usman Ododo, has inaugurated the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers aimed at boosting electricity supply and promoting rural development across 30 communities in the state’s three senatorial districts.

Speaking during the flag-off ceremony of Phase One of the statewide rural electrification project at the Government House in Lokoja, Governor Ododo described the initiative as a significant step toward fulfilling his administration’s promise to light up rural communities and empower citizens.

“It is with great pride and a profound sense of duty that I flag off the first phase of the distribution and installation of 30 units of 500kVA transformers strategically distributed across the three senatorial districts of our beloved state,” he stated.

The Governor explained that the project was conceived in response to community needs submitted through the Ministry of Rural and Energy Development, stressing that every request was treated with urgency to reflect his administration’s commitment to the welfare of the people, particularly at the grassroots.

Ododo emphasized that the distribution of the transformers would be guided by fairness and equity to ensure balanced development across the state.

“In the spirit of fairness and equity, I have directed that these 30 transformers be distributed across the three senatorial districts. This ensures that the benefits of this crucial infrastructure project are felt simultaneously and equitably across our state,” he said.

The Governor noted that the project transcends power provision, representing a broader investment in commerce, education, healthcare, and overall quality of life for Kogi citizens.

“Electricity is critical to our industrial drive and our determination to light up our rural areas to enhance livelihoods and agriculture. It is about lighting lives, powering education, driving industry, supporting healthcare, and strengthening community security. This project speaks to the truth that every part of Kogi State matters,” Ododo added.

He reaffirmed his administration’s resolve to continue implementing people-centered projects, assuring that subsequent phases of the electrification initiative would extend to more communities across the state.
Ododo also appealed to residents to protect the newly installed equipment from vandalism and ensure their proper use for collective benefit.

In his remarks, the Commissioner for Rural and Energy Development, Engr. Abdulmutalib Mohammed, said the project aligns with the ministry’s mandate to improve living conditions in rural areas.
He noted that the selection of benefiting communities followed a rigorous technical assessment process, assuring that more communities would benefit in subsequent phases.

The Commissioner commended Governor Ododo for his responsiveness to rural needs and for alleviating the long-standing power challenges faced by many communities.
