Nigerian Army Kickboxing Team Retains National Crown with Dominant Performance

T The Nigerian Army Kickboxing Team has once again asserted its dominance in combat sports, emerging overall champions at the National Kickboxing Open Championship held at the National Stadium, Abuja, from April 13 to 18, 2026.

The Army team successfully defended its title after finishing top of the medals table with an impressive haul of eight gold, three silver, and one bronze medal, outperforming athletes from state contingents, clubs, and other security agencies.

The championship featured some of the country’s finest kickboxers, but the Nigerian Army athletes stood out with their superior conditioning, tactical discipline, and technical precision across multiple weight categories. Both male and female fighters contributed significantly to the team’s victory, earning commendation for their skill and sportsmanship.

The performance, according to the Army, reflects its continued investment in sports development as a tool for fitness, discipline, and national representation.

Speaking on the achievement, Captain Joy Ehi Abah, Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Headquarters Directorate of Army Physical Training, Giri, described the victory as a product of sustained preparation and institutional commitment.

“The Nigerian Army Kickboxing Team has emerged overall winner at the just concluded National Kickboxing Open Championship held in Abuja. The team topped the medals table with eight gold, three silver and one bronze medal, demonstrating exceptional skill, resilience and discipline throughout the competition,” she said.

She added that the success underscores the Army’s broader commitment to nurturing sporting excellence within its ranks.

The victory further cements the Nigerian Army’s growing reputation in national combat sports and reinforces its continued presence as a dominant force in kickboxing competitions across the country.
