FAAN, Security Agencies Arrest Four Suspected Bandits Near Akure Airport

T The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced the arrest of four suspected bandits within the vicinity of Akure Airport following a coordinated security operation involving aviation and local security agencies.

In a press statement issued on March 15, 2026, FAAN disclosed that the suspects were apprehended after a distress alert reported suspicious individuals behind the airport perimeter towards the Eleyewe community in Ondo State.

According to the agency, the alert prompted an immediate response from security personnel including FAAN’s Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and other local security outfits.

During the operation, some of the suspects reportedly attempted to flee the area but were eventually apprehended by the joint security team.

FAAN confirmed that the four suspects have been handed over to the police for further investigation.

“The arrest followed a distress alert that suspicious individuals were sighted behind the airport perimeter towards the Eleyewe community. In response, security personnel comprising FAAN’s Aviation Security (AVSEC), the Nigerian Air Force, the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force, and other local security outfits immediately launched a joint search operation,” the statement said.

The authority commended the collaboration among aviation security personnel, the military, the police, and local security groups, including Amotekun Corps and community vigilantes, whose joint efforts led to the arrest.

FAAN further noted that the incident underscores the need to strengthen airport perimeter protection across the country.

“The incident further highlights the importance of strengthening airport perimeter protection. Consequently, the Federal Government, through the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace Development, with the support of the Presidency under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, has accelerated the provision of modern perimeter fencing and enhanced security infrastructure at airports across the country,” the agency stated.

The authority added that work has already commenced in phases to improve security infrastructure at airports under its management and reassured travellers and host communities of its commitment to ensuring the safety of airport facilities nationwide.
