ECOWAS Experts Validate Feasibility Study on Regional Cybersecurity Coordination Centre
C
Cybersecurity and ICT experts from ECOWAS Member States have validated the draft report of a feasibility study on the establishment of a Regional Cybersecurity Coordination Centre (RCCC). The three-day meeting, organised by the ECOWAS Commission’s Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Digitalisation, was held in Lagos, Nigeria, from September 15 to 17, 2025.
According to the Commission, the study was developed in collaboration with Member States to assess the feasibility of setting up the RCCC, in line with Directive C/DIR.1/01/2021 on the ECOWAS Regional Cybersecurity and Cybercrime Strategy.
The proposed RCCC is designed to serve as a cornerstone for coordinated cybersecurity efforts and mutual assistance across the Community, without duplicating the roles of national authorities or Computer Security Incident Response Teams (CSIRTs).
The final report, which builds on consultations with Member States and a preliminary draft, presents a pragmatic and phased model for the establishment of the Centre, described as both ambitious and achievable.
