AFCON 2025: Davido Loses N75m Bet as Super Eagles Fall to Morocco

N Nigerian Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has reportedly lost a ?75 million bet following Nigeria’s defeat to Morocco in the semi-final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Davido had placed a $50,000 wager on the Super Eagles to defeat the host nation, Morocco, and for both teams to score. The singer shared a screenshot of the betting slip on his X (formerly Twitter) account ahead of the encounter, expressing confidence in Nigeria’s chances.

In the post, Davido wrote, “Nigeria to make the finals and I’ll double my stake on my slip.”

However, the highly anticipated semi-final clash, played on Wednesday night at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, ended in a goalless draw after regulation time. Morocco eventually secured a 4–2 victory over Nigeria in the penalty shootout, knocking the Super Eagles out of the tournament.

As a result of the outcome, Davido lost the $50,000 stake, estimated at about ?75 million. Had the bet been successful, the award-winning singer would have earned over $348,274, equivalent to more than ?500 million at current exchange rates.

Nigeria will now contest the third-place match, while Morocco advance to the AFCON 2025 final.
