Bus Conveying Women to Welcome Tinubu Crashes in Uyo, Casualties Uncertain
A bus conveying women to participate in activities surrounding President Bola Tinubu’s visit to Akwa Ibom State was involved in an accident along Oron Road in Uyo on Friday.
The accident reportedly involved a Toyota Hilux vehicle and left several occupants of the bus injured.
The women were said to be travelling to participate in activities organised to receive the President, who visited the state on Friday for the inauguration of government projects and an All Progressives Congress (APC) political rally.
There are conflicting reports about the casualty figures.
While one report indicated that a person died in the accident, another account published by a local media organisation said no life was lost, although several passengers sustained injuries.
The incident reportedly occurred during the early hours of Friday as security and traffic arrangements were being implemented across parts of Uyo ahead of the President’s engagements.
According to the local account, the bus collided with a Hilux vehicle reportedly deployed as part of security arrangements for the presidential visit.
The impact reportedly damaged both vehicles, with the bus leaving the road and landing in a roadside drainage channel.
Passengers and other occupants were subsequently assisted by people at the scene, while injured victims were reportedly evacuated for medical attention.
President Tinubu had arrived in Uyo on Friday for a working visit during which he was scheduled to inaugurate several projects executed by the administration of Governor Umo Eno.
The projects included the new international terminal at Victor Attah International Airport, the International Airport Hospital, the Ibom Aviation Village, Ring Road 3 and the ARISE Palm Resort.
The President was also scheduled to participate in an APC political rally as part of activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
As of the time of filing this report, the casualty figures and circumstances surrounding the accident had yet to be independently established.
