A 26-year-old man, Anthony Cephas, has been sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for stealing a solar-powered streetlight along the Sagamu Interchange Expressway in Ogun State.
The Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement, saying the convict was arrested by detectives attached to the Sagamu Division on October 30, 2026.
According to the police, Cephas was arrested at about 9pm in the Mayegun area of Sagamu, where officers recovered the stolen streetlight and its solar panel.
Babaseyi said the arrest followed an investigation into the theft of the public infrastructure.
He explained that the recovered streetlight and solar panel were taken as exhibits during the investigation.
The police spokesperson added that Cephas was subsequently arraigned before a court on November 2, 2026, convicted and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment.
“Following diligent investigation, he was arraigned before a court on 2 November 2026, where he was convicted and sentenced to three years’ imprisonment,” Babaseyi said.
The theft involved solar-powered infrastructure installed along the Sagamu Interchange Expressway, where streetlighting is intended to improve visibility for motorists and other road users.
The police did not disclose the name of the court, the specific statutory provision under which Cephas was convicted or whether the three-year sentence includes an option of fine.
