The Force Commander of the ECOWAS Stabilisation Support Mission in Guinea-Bissau (ESSMGB), Brigadier General Danjuma Ribah Dantani, on Thursday, October 22, 2026, received a delegation from the Senegalese Armed Forces at the mission’s headquarters in Bissau.

The delegation was led by Major General Philippe DIA, Inspector General of the Senegalese Armed Forces, who said the visit was part of an inspection exercise conducted under the directive of the President of Senegal.

According to him, the inspection team was in Guinea-Bissau to monitor Senegalese military contingents and security personnel deployed in operations under the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), African Union (AU), United Nations (UN) and other missions.

He said the exercise was designed to assess the administration, training, financial management and general operational welfare of Senegalese personnel serving in the various deployments.

Major General DIA commended Brigadier General Dantani for his leadership and commitment to the ESSMGB’s mandate of promoting and sustaining peace and stability in Guinea-Bissau.

Responding, Dantani thanked the Inspector General and his delegation for the visit, describing it as timely and encouraging.

He said engagements of the nature were important for promoting personnel welfare, identifying operational challenges and strengthening the effectiveness of deployed contingents.

The Force Commander acknowledged that no system was perfect but assured the delegation of his continued commitment to keeping the mission focused on achieving its objectives.

The visit featured the signing of the visitors’ book, presentation of a memento and a group photograph.

Major Reuben Kovangiya, Military Public Information Officer at the Force Headquarters, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.
