MURIC Petitions Oyo Police Over 2019 Killing of Pa Biliaminu Taiwo
The Petition
The Oyo State chapter of the Muslim Rights Concern (MURIC) has petitioned the state Commissioner of Police over the alleged killing of Pa Biliaminu Taiwo in Fiditi, Afijio Local Government Area, in 2019, demanding a thorough investigation and prosecution of the suspect.
In a press release dated October 23, 2026, the organisation said it submitted the petition on October 22 and that it was acknowledged by the Commissioner of Police and the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Iyaganku, Ibadan.
The petition concerns Ojo Akinlabi, whom MURIC identified as the suspect in the alleged killing.
According to the organisation, Taiwo was hacked to death inside a mosque in November 2019. Historical reporting from that year also documented MURIC’s call for police action over the incident.
MURIC said its latest intervention followed the reported arrest of the suspect, although the circumstances and date of the arrest were not independently confirmed in the material available for this report.
The organisation urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly and ensure that anyone found responsible is prosecuted in accordance with the law.
It also alleged that Akinlabi had been involved in other violent attacks, including incidents in which victims were allegedly stabbeThe d with poisoned knives. These additional allegations have not been independently verified and should not be treated as established facts.
MURIC called on the authorities to ensure that the case receives appropriate attention, stressing the need for accountability and justice for the deceased.
The organisation’s petition marks a renewed call for action over an incident it says occurred nearly seven years ago.
However, an official police statement confirming the reported arrest, the acknowledgement of the petition and the current status of the investigation was not available at the time of this report.
The circumstances surrounding the case, including whether the suspect has been formally charged before a court, therefore remain to be independently established.
