England captain Harry Kane has said his wife and family are anxious about the uncertainty surrounding the 2026 Ballon d’Or, admitting that he would also prefer to know the result before Monday’s award ceremony.

The Bayern Munich striker spoke about the wait following his side’s 2–2 draw with Arsenal in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday, October 21.

Kane said his wife would prefer to know the outcome in advance, while acknowledging that keeping the result secret allows organisers to maintain suspense and encourages leading footballers to attend the ceremony.

He explained that he understood why the organisers wanted to keep the winner’s identity confidential, even though he would rather not spend the evening waiting for the announcement.

The 2026 Ballon d’Or ceremony is scheduled for Monday, October 26, at the London Palladium. The event, organised by France Football in partnership with UEFA, will mark the award’s 70th anniversary and take place in London for the first time.

Kane goes into the ceremony after an impressive 2025–26 campaign in which he scored 61 goals for Bayern Munich and 12 for England, according to figures cited in coverage of the award.

His performances have placed him among the leading contenders for the honour, although the winner will not be known until the official announcement.

The striker has also tried to keep his attention on football rather than the speculation surrounding the award. He said the constant rumours made it difficult to avoid thinking about the outcome, but maintained that he would try to enjoy the occasion without becoming overly stressed.

Kane could become the first Englishman to win the men’s Ballon d’Or since Michael Owen received the award in 2001. The result is expected to be announced during Monday’s ceremony in London.
