The Ogun State Police Command has arrested three secondary school students over a suspected cult-related activity in Owode-Yewa, with an axe, knives, a cutlass and other items reportedly recovered during the operation.

The suspects, aged 12, 18 and 18, were arrested after the police received intelligence about a planned gathering tagged “Kito Day”, which was said to involve students from different secondary schools in the area.

The command’s spokesperson, Oluseyi Babaseyi, said the police received the information on October 22, 2026, prompting the Divisional Police Officer in Owode-Yewa to deploy detectives to the location.

The operation was conducted in collaboration with members of the Vigilante Group of Nigeria.

According to the police account, the operation resulted in the arrest of the three students and the recovery of an English axe, two knives, a short cutlass, a rubber toy gun and a school bag.

The items were suspected to be connected to the planned activity, although the available information does not establish how each item was intended to be used or whether the gathering had already commenced when the students were arrested.

The command said the case would be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department at Eleweran, Abeokuta, on October 23 for further investigation and possible prosecution.

It was not independently established at the time of writing whether the transfer had been completed or whether any additional suspects had been identified.

The available police account did not identify the schools attended by the students or provide further details about the suspected group and the circumstances surrounding the planned gathering.

The investigation is expected to establish the circumstances of the incident and determine the extent of the suspects’ alleged involvement.
