Rosemary Aduku, the councillor representing Ogugu Ward III in Olamaboro Local Government Area of Kogi State, has reportedly died after spending several days in captivity.

Her death was announced on Friday by the chairman of Olamaboro Local Government Area, Dr Ameh Williams, in a statement issued on behalf of the Olamaboro Executive Council. The announcement came amid reports that the councillor had been held captive for several days.

Aduku, popularly known as Hon. Rosella among her colleagues, served in the eighth Olamaboro Legislative Council. Williams described her as a humble, dependable and compassionate person who was committed to the happiness and well-being of those around her.

In the statement announcing her death and burial arrangements, the council chairman expressed sadness over the loss, noting that her contributions and the positive impact she had on colleagues and members of her community would be remembered.

The statement read, “It is with deep sorrow we announce the sudden demise of our dear sister and colleague, Hon. Mrs Rosemary Aduku, the Honourable Councillor representing the good people of Ogugu Ward III in the 8th Olamaboro Legislative Council.”

Williams further described the late councillor as a valued member of the council whose character and concern for others had earned her the affection of colleagues and associates.

“Hon. Rosella, as she is profoundly called among her colleagues in the council and members of the Olamaboro Executive Council, has been a wonderful soul and down to earth,” the statement added.

The chairman said the council would take comfort in the legacies and positive testimonies left by the deceased, while praying for strength for her family, fellow councillors, members of the executive council and residents of the Ogugu district to bear the loss.

However, the statement announcing Aduku’s death did not disclose the circumstances surrounding her reported captivity or establish the cause of her death. Details concerning the incident therefore remain unclear.

According to the burial announcement, her funeral was scheduled for 1 p.m. on Friday at her family compound in Ogugu Centre, Kogi State. The local government chairman also invited members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) to attend the burial and pay their last respects to the deceased.

Aduku’s death has drawn attention to the circumstances surrounding the reported captivity of a serving local government legislator. Further details about the incident, including the circumstances of her death, were not provided in the council’s announcement.

The Olamaboro Legislative Council, the local government executive and residents of Ogugu are among those mourning her loss.
