Security Forces Rescue Two Kidnap Victims in Epe, Kill Suspected Kidnapper
Two kidnap victims have been rescued in Igbonla, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, following a coordinated operation by troops of the Nigerian Army, the Nigeria Police Force and local vigilantes.
The victims, identified as Kelvin Okafor and Alex Anato, were abducted while working on a farm in the area on Friday, September 4, 2026.
The rescue operation was launched after security personnel received credible information about the abduction. Troops of the 65 Battalion and their counterparts swiftly mobilised to the area and moved towards the kidnappers’ hideout.
On sighting the approaching security team, the kidnappers reportedly abandoned the victims and fled into the surrounding forest.
The security personnel gave chase, resulting in a gun battle during which one suspected kidnapper was neutralised. Two other suspects reportedly escaped further into the forest.
The two victims were rescued unharmed and subsequently handed over to the police for medical examination, debriefing and further investigation.
The remains of the deceased suspect were also handed over to the police for necessary action.
The Nigerian Army said the operation underscores its commitment to combating kidnapping and other criminal activities across the country.
It added that troops, in collaboration with sister security agencies and local stakeholders, would continue to conduct intelligence-driven operations to protect lives and property and ensure that criminal elements have no safe haven.
