The Federal Government has confirmed ongoing security and intelligence cooperation between Nigeria and the United States, leading to precision airstrikes on terrorist targets in parts of North-West Nigeria.
This was disclosed in a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja on Friday, December 26, 2025.
According to the ministry, the collaboration forms part of structured engagements with international partners aimed at tackling terrorism and violent extremism across the country.
The ministry explained that the partnership with the United States involves intelligence sharing, strategic coordination, and other forms of support carried out in line with international law, mutual respect for national sovereignty, and shared commitments to regional and global security.
“Nigeria reiterates that all counter-terrorism efforts are guided by the primacy of protecting civilian lives, safeguarding national unity, and upholding the rights and dignity of all citizens, irrespective of faith or ethnicity,” the statement said.
It stressed that terrorist violence against any group—Christians, Muslims, or other communities—remains unacceptable and constitutes an affront to Nigeria’s core values as well as international peace and security.
The Federal Government noted that it will continue working with its partners through established diplomatic and security channels to weaken terrorist networks, disrupt their financing and logistics, and prevent cross-border threats, while simultaneously strengthening Nigeria’s domestic security institutions and intelligence capabilities.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs added that it remains committed to engaging relevant partners and keeping the public informed through official communication channels.
The statement was signed by Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Abuja.
