Two Ghanaian Soldiers Injured as Battalion Base Comes Under Missile Attack

T The Ghana Armed Forces has confirmed that its battalion headquarters serving under the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) in Southern Lebanon came under missile attack amid the ongoing hostilities between the Israel Defense Forces and Hezbollah.

According to a press statement issued on March 6, 2026, by the Department of Public Relations at the military’s General Headquarters in Accra, the Ghanaian position was struck by two missiles between 1745 and 1752 hours local time.

The attack left two Ghanaian soldiers critically injured, while another personnel was reported to have suffered trauma. Military authorities also disclosed that the Officers’ Mess facility within the battalion compound was hit during the strike and completely destroyed by fire.

“The Ghana Armed Forces wishes to inform the general public that as a fallout of the current on-going IDF and Hezbollah exchanges in Southern Lebanon, the Ghanaian Battalion Headquarters in UNIFIL came under two missile attacks between 1745 and 1752 hours local time today,” the statement said.

Providing an update on the condition of the affected personnel, the military noted that the injured soldiers are currently receiving medical attention and remain stable.

“Two soldiers are critically injured, while one other has been traumatised. Additionally, the Officers’ Mess facility also got hit and has been burnt down completely. The injured are receiving treatment at the Level One Medical Bunker and are currently stable while arrangements are underway for their evacuation to the UNIFIL Headquarters Referral Hospital,” the statement added.

The Ghana Armed Forces further assured the public that troops stationed at the base have taken refuge in underground bunkers and remain safe despite the fragile security situation in the area.

“The Ghana Armed Forces assures the general public to remain calm amidst the fragile situation as troops are currently safe in underground bunkers,” the statement noted.

Meanwhile, the Government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, has formally protested the incident at the United Nations headquarters in New York, urging all parties involved in the conflict to respect international obligations regarding the protection and safety of peacekeeping forces.
