Troops of the Joint Task Force North East under Operation HADIN KAI have successfully repelled coordinated attacks by ISWAP terrorists on a Forward Operating Base in Mandaragirau, Sector 2, eliminating no fewer than 38 insurgents.
The operation, which took place in the early hours of Saturday, March 28, 2026, saw Nigerian troops mount a fierce and strategic counteroffensive that forced the terrorists into a chaotic retreat.
According to the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Colonel Sani Uba, the troops responded swiftly and decisively to the attempted incursion, deploying superior firepower and tactical coordination to neutralize the attackers.
“Our troops responded with a well-coordinated offensive that forced the attackers into a disorganized retreat,” Uba stated.
He further disclosed that the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI played a crucial role in the success of the mission by providing close air support during the engagement, intensifying pressure on the fleeing insurgents.
Subsequent clearance operations conducted along the terrorists’ withdrawal routes inflicted additional casualties, raising the total number of neutralized insurgents to 38.
Local sources also revealed that more than 30 additional bodies of suspected terrorists were discovered along the Garin Mallum–Garin Gajere axis, leading into the notorious Timbuktu Triangle. Several arms and ammunition were recovered from the area.
Military authorities reiterated their resolve to sustain aggressive operations aimed at dismantling terrorist networks and restoring lasting peace across Nigeria’s North East region.
The development underscores ongoing efforts by Operation HADIN KAI to weaken ISWAP’s operational capacity and secure vulnerable communities from insurgent threats.
