Troops Neutralize Terrorists in Sokoto, Zamfara, Kebbi

T Troops of Sector 2 under Operation FANSAN YAMMA have intensified coordinated offensives against terrorist enclaves across the North-West, recording multiple successes in Sokoto State, Zamfara State, and Kebbi State.

According to a statement issued by the Nigerian Army, the operations, carried out within the week, are aimed at protecting vulnerable communities and neutralizing criminal elements operating in the region.

In Sokoto State, troops of the COAS Intervention Battalion VII engaged terrorists in two separate encounters at Magonho Forest on March 25, 2026. The military confirmed that three bandits were neutralized during the operations, with troops recovering three AK-47 rifles and motorcycles.

Similarly, in Zamfara State, troops successfully ambushed terrorists along the Gada Maya–Makakari Village road on the same day, killing two insurgents and forcing others to flee. The operation led to the recovery of one AK-47 rifle, three magazines, 55 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition, a Baofeng radio, two mobile phones, and a motorcycle.

“Later the same day, terrorists attempted to retaliate by attacking Kaida Village, falsely accusing the villagers of collaborating with security forces. The troops responded swiftly, neutralizing an additional terrorist and recovering another AK-47 rifle,” the statement noted.

In a related operation, troops acting on credible intelligence carried out a clearance mission in Dutsi Village, Moriki District of Zurmi Local Government Area, where fleeing terrorists abandoned one AK-47 rifle, a magazine, and 26 rounds of ammunition under sustained military pressure.

Meanwhile, in Kebbi State, troops responding to intelligence on the presence of the Lakurawa Terrorist Group in Giron Masa community, Shanga Local Government Area, were ambushed approximately 500 metres before reaching the village. Despite the attack, reinforcements and combat support have been deployed, with ongoing intelligence-led operations to track and neutralize the fleeing terrorists.

Reaffirming its commitment, the Army stated, “8 Division/Sector 2 OPFY remains resolute in its mission to dominate the operational space, degrade terrorist capabilities and protect law-abiding citizens.”

The statement further emphasized that troop morale remains high, adding that ongoing operations are aligned with the strategic directives of the Chief of Army Staff to restore peace and security across the North-West.
