Tinubu Reappoints Audi as NSCDC Commandant-General for Fresh Five-Year Term

P President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has renewed the appointment of Dr. Ahmed Abubakar Audi as the Commandant-General of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) for another five-year term.

The reappointment, which took effect on Friday, February 27, was announced in a State House press release signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, on February 28, 2026.

Audi was first appointed to lead the NSCDC in 2021 by former President Muhammadu Buhari. His initial tenure ended last Friday as he participated in activities marking the 2026 World Civil Defence Day at the Corps’ National Headquarters in Abuja.

According to the statement, President Tinubu has tasked the NSCDC boss with repositioning the service to assume a stronger role in national security. The President specifically urged him to enhance the Corps’ capacity, particularly as the Nigeria Police refocuses on its core mandate of protecting citizens from banditry, kidnapping and terrorism.

Audi is expected to resume duties on Monday under the renewed mandate.

Born on September 30, 1967, in Laminga Town, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Audi began his academic journey at Teachers’ College, Jengre, Plateau State, where he obtained a Teachers’ Grade II Certificate in 1987. He later earned a Nigeria Certificate in Education from the College of Education, Akwanga, in 1992.

He holds a bachelor’s degree in Physical and Health Education from Ahmadu Bello University (1995), a Master’s degree in Public Administration from University of Calabar (2001), and a PhD in Public Administration from Nasarawa State University (2014). He also obtained a Master’s in Law Enforcement and Criminal Justice from Ahmadu Bello University in 2019.

Audi joined the NSCDC as a volunteer in November 1996 and was deployed as a Divisional Officer in Obi Local Government Area of Nasarawa State after completing his basic officer training in 1997. He rose through the ranks, serving in various state commands before his promotion to Commandant of the Corps in 2007 and subsequent deployment to the office of the Commandant-General at the National Headquarters in Abuja.
