Tinubu Appoints Adelabu NECO Board Chair, Names Salako NBTE Chairman

P President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved a fresh round of appointments across key institutions in the education sector, naming Professor Modupe Adeola Adelabu as Chairman of the Governing Board of the National Examinations Council (NECO).

The President also retained Professor Ibrahim Dantani Wushishi as Registrar of NECO, appointed Engr. Dr. Bongfa Binfa as Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam in Plateau State, and renewed the tenure of Professor Chinwe Veronica Anunobi as Director/Chief Executive of the National Library of Nigeria.

In a related move, Tinubu appointed Professor Babatunde Salako as Chairman of the National Board of Technical Education (NBTE), while reappointing the incumbent Executive Secretary, Professor Idris M. Bugaje, for a second and final five-year term.

Professor Adelabu, a retired academic and former Deputy Governor of Ekiti State, previously served as Chairman of NBTE between 2018 and 2021. Professor Salako, a renowned researcher, earlier held office as Director-General of the Nigerian Institute of Medical Research from 2016 to 2024.

Engr. Binfa succeeds Dr. Mukaila Zakari Ya’u, the pioneer Rector of the Federal Polytechnic, N’yak-Shendam, whose tenure ended on March 16, 2026.

A presidency source said the appointments reflect the administration’s commitment to strengthening leadership and governance across critical education institutions.

“These appointments are part of ongoing efforts to reposition the education sector through capable and experienced leadership,” the source stated.
