Police to Resume Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit January 2

T The Nigeria Police Force has announced that it will resume enforcement of the tinted glass permit policy from January 2, 2026, citing growing security concerns nationwide.

The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, disclosed this in a statement issued on December 15, noting that the decision followed recent security assessments linking rising criminal activities to the use of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass.

Hundeyin clarified that contrary to public speculation, there is no court order restraining the police from enforcing existing laws on tinted glass usage.

“It is important to clarify that at no point did the court restrain the Nigeria Police Force from enforcing the provisions of the law regarding the use of tinted glass on vehicles,” the statement read. “However, in the spirit of responsibility, transparency, and public convenience, the Force had earlier suspended enforcement to allow motorists ample time to regularise their documentation without pressure.”

According to the police, criminals have increasingly exploited unauthorised tinted glass to conceal their identities while committing crimes such as armed robbery, kidnapping and other violent offences.

“Recent trends reveal a disturbing rise in criminal activities perpetrated with the aid of vehicles fitted with unauthorised tinted glass,” Hundeyin said. “In view of this, the Nigeria Police Force has found it necessary and urgent to resume full enforcement as a proactive measure to safeguard our communities.”

The police spokesperson urged motorists who require tinted glass permits to apply through approved channels and ensure their vehicles comply with legal requirements ahead of the enforcement date.

He added that the renewed enforcement is part of broader efforts by the Force to strengthen public safety and curb the use of vehicles for criminal purposes.
