Police Suspend Nationwide Enforcement of Tinted Glass Permit After Court Order

The Nigeria Police Force has suspended the nationwide enforcement of its tinted vehicle glass permit policy following an interim court order restraining the action, barely a day before the exercise was scheduled to resume.
The restraining order, issued on December 17, 2025, in Suit No. HOR/FHR/M/31/2025, directed the police to halt enforcement pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit.
This development comes after the Force had earlier announced, on December 15, 2025, that strict enforcement of tinted glass regulations would commence on January 2, 2026, as part of efforts to improve public safety and curb crimes often associated with vehicles with heavily tinted windows.
Confirming the suspension, the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, said the police would abide by the court’s directive in line with its commitment to the rule of law.
“The Nigeria Police Force wishes to state clearly that it has complied with the interim order of the court in obedience to the rule of law,” Hundeyin said.
He added that the Force has already taken legal steps to challenge the ruling.
“The police have entered appearances in the matter, filed preliminary objections, and applied to vacate the interim order,” he noted.
According to Hundeyin, the matter has been adjourned for further hearing on January 20, 2026, when the court is expected to consider arguments from both parties.
He advised motorists across the country to remain calm and await fresh directives.
“Members of the public are advised to await further guidance and updates following the final determination of the case by the court,” he said.
Until then, enforcement of tinted glass permit regulations remains suspended nationwide.
