Police Nab Viral Video Suspect Who Attacked Female Officers, Tracked Across States

T The Osun State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a man accused of assaulting female police officers during a routine traffic operation, following the circulation of a viral video that sparked widespread outrage.

In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Command disclosed that the suspect was captured in the widely shared footage attacking the officers with a stick and a shovel while they were carrying out their lawful duties.

The disturbing incident drew strong public condemnation and triggered swift action from law enforcement authorities.

According to the police, an intelligence-led operation was immediately launched after the attack to track down the suspect. Investigations revealed that he had fled Osun State and escaped to Edo State in a bid to evade arrest. However, he was eventually apprehended by operatives.

The Command described the arrest as a clear demonstration of its resolve to ensure that acts of violence against security personnel and law-abiding citizens do not go unpunished. It reiterated that assaulting police officers on duty remains a serious criminal offence under Nigerian law.

The suspect is currently in police custody and is expected to be charged in court upon the conclusion of investigations.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police condemned the attack, describing it as barbaric and unacceptable, while assuring the public of continued efforts to uphold law and order across the state.
