Patients evacuated as fire breaks out at LAUTECH Teaching Hospital

I In the early hours of Saturday, a fire broke out at the Ladoke Akintola University Teaching Hospital (LAUTECH) in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, leading to the destruction of property worth millions of naira.

The blaze, which originated around 5 a.m. in a pediatric consultant’s office, damaged electronic devices, engines, office equipment, books, and the roof.

According to a reliable source, the fire may have been triggered by an electrical spark. Approximately 16 patients were quickly evacuated from the ward as a precautionary measure.

In response to the incident, Ogunleye Omotayo, the Public Relations Officer of LAUTECH, issued a statement assuring the public that no lives were lost. "The management of the institution wishes to state that the fire incident that occurred early this morning (Saturday), as carried by some news media, was put out without any remarkable damage to the hospital," the statement read.

Omotayo added that investigations are underway to determine the exact cause. "At the moment, light has been restored, and work activities have resumed in the section where the fire incident took place," he confirmed, emphasizing that the situation is under control.

Expressing gratitude to staff, the state Fire Service, and concerned community members for their swift response, the hospital management urged the public to continue their daily routines without fear, noting, "The fire incident raised no cause for alarm. Everyone is advised to go about their normal daily activities without fear."
