Mr Macaroni Blasts Wike Over Controversial ‘Shoot’ Comment at TV Anchor Okinbaloye

N Nigerian activist and comedian, Mr Macaroni, has taken a swipe at the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, over his controversial remark directed at Seun Okinbaloye during a recent media chat.

The controversy stems from comments made by Okinbaloye on Politics Today, a flagship programme on Channels Television, where he expressed concerns about the dangers of a one-party system in Nigeria amid ongoing political developments.

Speaking during the programme, the anchor warned that the weakening of opposition parties, particularly in the wake of the crisis within the ADC and actions involving the Independent National Electoral Commission, could pose a serious threat to the nation’s democracy.

“What makes the race very interesting is when it is competitive… If this hope is dashed, we are doomed democratically,” Okinbaloye said, stressing the importance of a vibrant opposition ahead of future elections.

Responding during a media chat, Wike criticised the journalist’s stance, describing it as inappropriate for an interviewer and expressing visible anger over the remarks. He stated that he “would have shot” the anchor out of frustration, but clarified that the comment was not meant as a literal threat.

The statement has since triggered reactions across social media, with Mr Macaroni condemning what he described as a pattern of unchecked excesses by public officials.

“This is a country where public servants become tyrants because they know there is no consequence for impropriety,” he said.
