Memorial Run Held in Cyprus for Nigerian Man Killed in Building Collapse

A A memorial run was held on Sunday, April 19, 2026, in Cyprus in honour of a 27-year-old Nigerian man, Stanley, popularly known as Dex, who died in a recent apartment building collapse.

Dex lost his life on April 11 in Germasogeia, near Limassol, shortly after returning home from a morning run when the building he lived in suddenly collapsed.

The memorial event, organised by local running groups Sea Legs Run and Team Runnins, drew members of the community and the wider public, who gathered to celebrate his life and legacy.

Participants paid glowing tributes, describing Dex as “a person full of positivity” and a well-loved figure within the local running community. Friends noted that he had built strong relationships and was admired for his humility and kindness.

“He loved Cyprus and treated everyone around him with respect,” one tribute read, adding that he was always seen with a smile despite personal challenges.

Organisers revealed that Dex had relocated from Nigeria in search of better opportunities, working tirelessly to support his mother and family back home.

His death has continued to draw sympathy, with many describing the memorial run as a fitting tribute to a young life cut short in tragic circumstances.
