Makinde: Oyo Pilgrims to Depart for 2026 Hajj from Ibadan Airport

G Governor Seyi Makinde has announced that Muslim pilgrims from Oyo State will depart for the 2026 Hajj directly from the upgraded Ladoke Akintola International Airport on May 3, 2026.

The governor said the development marks a major milestone in the state’s aviation sector, noting that the airport is now equipped for both day and night operations following the installation of modern airfield lighting and an Instrument Landing System (ILS).

“Insha Allah, our pilgrims will take off to Saudi Arabia from Ibadan on May 3, 2026. The airfield lighting has been completed, and aircraft can now land and take off at any time, even at 1:00 a.m. or 3:00 a.m. We have also installed the Instrument Landing System to support pilots during landing,” Makinde said.

He added that the direct departure from Ibadan would ease the stress on intending pilgrims and further position Oyo State as a growing hub for regional air travel and economic activity.
