LASU Alumna Wins Valedictorian and Alumni Award at Canada’s NSCC

L Lagos State University (LASU) is celebrating one of its distinguished alumnae, Modupe Aminat Abass-Tijani, who has been honoured with two of Nova Scotia Community College’s (NSCC) highest recognitions in Canada — Valedictorian for the Class of 2025 and the prestigious NSCC Alumni Award.

Aminat, who began her academic journey at LASU, earned a Diploma in International Affairs and Strategic Studies (Upper Credit) in the 2001/2002 academic session, followed by a B.Sc. in Economics (Second Class Honours, Upper Division) in 2008/2009. Her passion for learning led her to Canada, where she recently graduated with honours in June 2025 as an Information Technology Generalist from NSCC.

While at NSCC, she distinguished herself through leadership and service. She served as a Wellness Champion, driving mental health awareness among students and staff; worked as a Peer-Assisted Learning Support (PALS) provider, mentoring students in IT courses; and represented Atlantic Canada and NSCC at the national Enactus exposition in Toronto, following her team’s first-place victory at the regional competition in Halifax.

Her selection as Valedictorian recognised her as the official representative and voice of the graduating class, while the Alumni Award celebrated her embodiment of NSCC’s values of excellence, ambassadorship, and community engagement.

In a congratulatory message, LASU’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, mni, NPOM, commended Aminat’s achievements, describing her as “a global ambassador of LASU’s values of excellence, resilience, and service” and wishing her continued success in her professional and academic journey.
