Ibadan Man Seeks Divorce, Cites Infidelity, Abuse, Threats to Life

A A man, identified as Lukman, has filed for divorce at the Grade A Customary Court sitting in Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, citing irreconcilable differences with his wife, Aderonke. Lukman accused his wife of being troublesome, engaging in constant physical altercations, infidelity, and even threatening his life.

In his petition, Lukman stated that their marriage had been marked by constant conflict, describing Aderonke as having a "destructive nature." He claimed that she would seek out opportunities to provoke him, often resulting in violent confrontations that damaged their home. Lukman provided an example where Aderonke used a pestle to destroy the door and louvre blades of their house.

He further accused Aderonke of setting fire to part of their home, with the alarming statement that her intention was to "roast him alive" along with the house. Lukman also described how his wife’s aggressive behavior extended beyond their home and into his place of business. He alleged that Aderonke brought soldiers to his shop, who attacked him, vandalized his property, and made off with his stock.

Lukman also raised concerns about his wife’s alleged infidelity, saying that she was frequently seen with other men. The plaintiff contended that Aderonke's actions had caused him irreparable harm and sought a dissolution of their marriage.

In addition to requesting the divorce, Lukman asked the court to order Aderonke to vacate their two-bedroom flat, as he stated the property was solely his.

The case is currently ongoing as the court considers the details of Lukman's petition.
