ECOWAS Appoints Bappah as Commissioner for Internal Services

T The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) Commission has appointed Dr Habibu Yaya Bappah as its new Commissioner for Internal Services.



Dr Bappah was sworn in on Friday, December 12, 2025, by the President of the ECOWAS Court of Justice, Hon. Justice Ricardo Cláudio Monteiro Gonçalves, during the closing ceremony of the 95th Ordinary Session of the ECOWAS Council of Ministers held in Abuja.



A Nigerian national, Dr Bappah brings over 20 years of professional experience to the role, including more than nine years of continuous service at the executive leadership level of the ECOWAS Commission. His appointment reflects the Commission’s drive to enhance institutional effectiveness, administrative efficiency, and good governance in line with the ECOWAS Vision 2050.



Before his appointment, Dr Bappah served as Special Adviser to the President of the ECOWAS Commission on Economic and Financial Integration and Partnerships. He also previously worked as Executive Assistant to Commissioners overseeing Finance as well as Political Affairs, Peace and Security.



Through these roles, he played key parts in the Commission’s administrative, procedural, policy, and financial operations, contributing significantly to the strengthening of ECOWAS’ internal systems and governance structures.
