T The Ilorin Emirate has been thrown into mourning following the death of its Chief Imam, Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Soliu, who passed away on Monday at the age of 75.

The death of the revered Islamic scholar was confirmed by members of his family, sparking an outpouring of grief across Ilorin and beyond.

Alhaji Muhammad Bashir Soliu was the 12th Chief Imam of Ilorin, having been appointed in 1983 by the late Emir of Ilorin, Zuluqarnain Muhammadu Gambari. He was widely respected for his scholarship, humility and lifelong commitment to the promotion of Islam, peace and moral discipline.

“He dedicated his life to the service of Islam and the spiritual upliftment of the people,” a family source said.

Among his lasting legacies is the establishment of several Islamic schools and institutions, which contributed significantly to the spread of education and Islamic values within Kwara State and beyond.
